The name comes from Québécois slang for something sloppy or overstuffed, a nod to how the roll's filling always spills out over the sides of the bun.
A hot dog bun is stuffed to overflowing with a cold, mayo-dressed salad of shrimp, lobster, or chicken, topped with lettuce and tomato. Roadside cabanes à patates (chip trucks) across Québec serve it alongside poutine and fries.
Why it's made this way: It's a fixture specifically of Québec's roadside chip-truck culture, a casual highway food tradition distinct from the rest of Canada.
