Empanada de Centolla

🥟
Photo coming soon

A single empanada can require an entire crab leg's worth of meat, making it one of the more expensive empanadas sold anywhere in Chile.

Sweet king crab meat is folded with onion and a touch of cream into a baked pastry pocket, sold hot from bakeries and market counters around Punta Arenas. It's a richer, seafood twist on Chile's national pastry.

Why it's made this way: The dish exists specifically because centolla is a local, everyday catch in Magallanes rather than the luxury import it is elsewhere in Chile.
