The name literally translates to 'dog won't even look at it' — a self-deprecating nickname for the founder that stuck and became one of China's most famous food brands.

A finely pleated, hand-folded wrapper (traditionally 18+ folds per bun) is filled with seasoned minced pork and a savory broth-infused stuffing, then steamed. Traditionally eaten with shredded ginger and vinegar.

Why it's made this way: Local legend says founder Gao Guiyou, nicknamed "Goubuli" as a child, was so absorbed in his bun-making he ignored customers — the nickname became the brand's now-famous name.
