Becherovka

Only two living people know the exact recipe of this herbal spirit, unchanged since a spice merchant first bottled it in the spa town of Karlovy Vary in 1807.

Becherovka is a bittersweet herbal liqueur blending 32 herbs and spices, originally sold as a stomach tonic for spa-goers taking the town's mineral waters. It's still distilled in Karlovy Vary and typically served ice-cold as a shot or mixed into a 'Beton' cocktail with tonic.

Why it's made this way: Karlovy Vary's identity as Europe's grand spa town is inseparable from this 'medicinal' liqueur, born to soothe visitors between soaks.
