One hillside district here once had roughly 68,000 plum trees, making this rugged highland region the historic birthplace of Czech plum brandy.
Slivovice is a clear, potent plum brandy, double-distilled and typically 40–55% alcohol, with Valašsko (Wallachia) regarded as its birthplace in the Bohemian lands. Distilling here stretches back centuries, likely brought by Balkan shepherds who settled the highlands.
Why it's made this way: Valašsko's hilly terrain and orchards proved ideal for plums, and home distilling became a mark of highland self-sufficiency and local pride.
