During the Communist era, this thick, chocolatey porter was such a rare treat that generations of Czechs remember it as their first taste of something 'exotic' — a strong, dark beer style almost unheard of behind the Iron Curtain.
Pardubický Porter is a dark, full-bodied Czech beer brewed to a recipe devised in 1891, made from four types of malt and matured for three months. It pours near-black with a thick tan head and carries deep notes of chocolate, caramel, and dried cherry.
Why it's made this way: Brewed continuously in Pardubice since 1890, it is one of East Bohemia's oldest and most distinctive beers, standing apart from the pale lagers found almost everywhere else in the country.
