Pito is traditionally drunk from a single shared calabash passed hand to hand at pito bars — informal spots that are often just someone's compound with benches set out front.

A low-alcohol beer brewed from fermented millet or sorghum, sold from large earthen pots at neighborhood pito bars and ladled into calabash gourds for customers to share.

Why it's made this way: Brewing and selling pito is historically a household-level trade run mostly by women in Northern Ghana, and the shared-calabash custom makes drinking it as much a social ritual as a beverage.
