It's still sometimes poured from ornate brass jugs strapped to a vendor's back — a walking-drink tradition centuries old across the Levant.
Tamr hindi is a tart, sweetened tamarind drink made by soaking and straining tamarind pulp with sugar and water, served ice cold. In Jordan it's sold by street vendors from large urns, especially in the evenings during Ramadan and through hot summer months.
Why it's made this way: It's a beloved fixture of Levantine street-vendor culture, tied to communal iftar gatherings and warm-weather refreshment across Jordan's cities.
