Corundas

Corundas — street food from Michoacán, Mexico

The triangular shape is made without a mold, purely by folding one long corn-plant leaf back and forth around the masa.

Small, usually triangular tamales wrapped in a long green leaf of the corn plant, eaten with red salsa, cream and cheese and sold by the dozen at Michoacán markets and snack stalls.

Why it's made this way: They are a Purépecha food known since pre-Hispanic times, called khurhúnda in the Purépecha language, and remain the signature tamal of Michoacán.
