Locals in Hunza and Nagar describe it as the region's own answer to pizza — a flat filled bread baked whole, then cut into wedges at the table.
A round of dough is filled with a mix of minced meat, onion, and herbs, sealed, and baked until the crust turns golden, then sliced into wedges like a pie. Originally a specialty of Nagar Valley, it's now made across Hunza and other towns along the Karakoram Highway.
Why it's made this way: It grew out of Nagar Valley's mountain kitchens, where wheat and barley were staples, and it has since spread across Gilgit-Baltistan as one of the region's most recognizable dishes.
