The treat is named after aviator Charles Lindbergh, a local mispronunciation of his surname, after his 1928 visit to Puerto Rico made "Limber" the neighborhood nickname for the frozen pop.
Fruit juice, coconut milk, or coffee is frozen solid in small plastic cups, then sold from home freezers or corner stores, eaten by peeling back the cup or sucking the pop straight from it.
Why it's made this way: Limber-making is a home-based micro-business found in neighborhoods across the island, making it one of Puerto Rico's most everyday, grassroots street treats rather than a restaurant item.
