Along roads leading into Baidoa, milk has traditionally been measured and sold using a standardized tin called a kombo, holding roughly 0.8 litres.
Caano lo' is fresh cow's milk, sold in tins and jerry cans in Baidoa's markets by herders and small dairy farmers from the surrounding Bay region.
Why it's made this way: Baidoa district is one of the few places in southern Somalia where indigenous Boran cattle are specifically reared, giving the city a dairy identity distinct from the camel-milk economy of the pastoral north.
