It rose to nationwide fame in the 2010s after being featured on Korean television — before that it was mostly a Nampo-dong-only secret.
Busan vendors took the classic syrup-filled hotteok and packed the split-open pancake with a crunchy mix of sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, peanuts and pine nuts on top of the molten brown-sugar filling. Long lines of street stalls sell it fresh off the griddle along Nampo-dong's BIFF Square and Gukje Market.
Why it's made this way: The seed-topped version originated specifically in Busan's Nampo-dong, and its national fame took off after Korean TV crews began featuring it as a Busan-specific street food, cementing it as Busan's own twist on a countrywide snack.
