La Foz de Morcín has held a casadielles contest every January since 2010, timed for its San Antón fiesta (17 January); it started as a provincial contest and now bills itself as the World Casadielles Contest.

Finger-length tubes of wheat dough stuffed with ground walnuts (or hazelnuts), sugar and anise, fried and dusted with sugar; confiterías across Asturias sell them singly or by the box all year.

Why it's made this way: A traditional Asturian sweet made above all for Carnival (Antroxu), and also at Christmas and Easter, and now a standard item in pastry shops across the Principality, especially in the central valleys.
