Sweden marks Kanelbullens Dag, Cinnamon Bun Day, every October 4, a promotional day launched by the Swedish Home Baking Council in 1999.

A spiral bun of yeasted dough spiced with cinnamon and cardamom, brushed with syrup and topped with pearl sugar, sold warm from bakeries, cafés, and street stalls throughout Sweden.

Why it's made this way: Cardamom became central to Swedish baking through historic spice-trade routes, and the bun's portable, hand-held shape made it a natural match for grabbing alongside coffee during a quick fika break.
