Sweden takes its cinnamon bun seriously enough to give it a dedicated national holiday, Kanelbullens Dag, every October 4th.

A spiral bun of yeasted dough spiced with cinnamon and cardamom, brushed with syrup and topped with pearl sugar, sold warm from bakeries, cafés, and street stalls throughout Sweden.

Why it's made this way: Cardamom became central to Swedish baking through historic spice-trade routes, and the bun's portable, hand-held shape made it a natural match for grabbing alongside coffee during a quick fika break.
