Rugenbräu

It has stayed in the hands of the same family since 1866 — over 150 years — making it one of the last truly independent, family-run breweries left in Switzerland.

Rugenbräu is a traditional Bernese lager and specialty beer, brewed beneath the peaks of the Bernese Oberland with a clean, malt-forward character. It's a fixture of Interlaken's mountain restaurants and is also distilled into its own Alpine whisky and gin.

Why it's made this way: Based in Matten bei Interlaken, it's the market-leading brewery and distillery of the canton of Bern, tying the region's beer culture directly to its Alpine landscape.
