Hürlimann Bier

The brewery once produced Samichlaus, a 14% ABV lager brewed once a year on St Nicholas Day and for a time listed as the strongest beer in the world. Its old site is now Zürich's Hürlimann Areal, with a thermal bath in the former brewery cellars.

Hürlimann is a classic Swiss lager, malty and full-bodied, from a brewery once famous for its yeast research. The name still appears on taps across Zürich today, kept alive as a heritage brand.

Why it's made this way: Founded in Feldbach in 1836 and moved to Zürich in 1866, Hürlimann became one of Switzerland's biggest breweries and shaped the city's beer culture until it merged with Feldschlösschen in the 1990s.
