A single collection from this coastal winery once sold for over a million dollars at auction — bottles of Crimean dessert wine dating back to the 1830s.
Massandra is a historic winery on the Crimean coast, built in the 1890s for Tsar Nicholas II with kilometers of tunnels carved to age fortified and sweet wines for the nearby imperial palaces. Its vast cellar collection became one of the most valuable in the world.
Why it's made this way: Crimea's sun-drenched Black Sea coast and royal patronage built a dessert-wine legacy here unmatched elsewhere in Ukraine.
