When maker A.G. Barr cut the sugar in 2018 to avoid the UK's new sugar levy, fans bulk-bought the original recipe, and a full-sugar version was later brought back.

Irn-Bru is a fluorescent-orange, bubblegum-and-fruit-flavored carbonated soft drink invented in Scotland in 1901. It's sold everywhere from chip shops to pubs, and is a famous hangover cure the morning after a night of whisky.

Why it's made this way: Irn-Bru has long rivalled Coca-Cola as Scotland's best-selling soft drink, a feat few domestic soda brands anywhere have managed against the global giant.
