New Orleans Sno-Ball

Unlike mainland snow cones made from crushed ice, a true sno-ball uses ice shaved into fluffy, fine flakes that soak up syrup instead of pooling at the bottom.

Fine, fluffy shaved ice is packed into a cup and soaked with bright fruit syrup, sometimes with a scoop of soft condensed-milk cream tucked inside. Neighborhood stands like Hansen's Sno-Bliz have sold them from walk-up windows since the 1930s.
