Snowball Stand · Egg Custard Ice

Baltimore Snowball

🍧
Photo coming soon

Baltimore's signature snowball flavor is 'egg custard,' a pale yellow syrup that tastes nothing like egg and everything like vanilla marshmallow, and is essentially unknown outside the city.

Finely shaved ice is packed into a cup and doused with sweet syrup, often finished with a spoonful of marshmallow topping pressed into the center. Corner snowball stands pop up on Baltimore sidewalks every summer.

Why it's made this way: The egg custard flavor and marshmallow topping are specific quirks of Baltimore's snowball culture, distinct from sno-balls or snow cones elsewhere.
