Its caramel-and-apple flavor has no real international equivalent — it's a homegrown soda that has held its own against Coca-Cola since being reformulated over a century ago.
Selecto is a dark, caramel-and-apple flavored soda made by the Algerian company Hamoud Boualem, first launched under a different name in 1907. It's sold in bottles and cans from corner shops and street stalls across Algeria, often alongside grilled snacks.
Why it's made this way: It's the flagship product of one of Algeria's oldest beverage companies and remains one of the country's most consumed sodas, a genuine point of local pride.
