Antwerp locals refused to call it by its real name and instead ordered it by the shape of its glass — 'Bolleke,' meaning 'little ball' — a nickname so dominant it officially became the beer's name in 2019.
De Koninck is a smooth, malty amber ale, a Belgian 'Spéciale' style beer served exclusively in its distinctive round, stemmed glass. It's been the default order in Antwerp's brown cafés for over a century.
