Peket's mascot is a miner in a blue smock and red scarf — a nod to the industrial workers of Liège who once drank the juniper spirit to warm up after a shift underground.
Peket is a juniper-based grain spirit similar to jenever, traditionally sold in one-liter clay bottles and served neat or on the rocks, often flavored with fruit or spice. It's a Liège specialty best paired with smoked fish or strong Herve cheese.
Why it's made this way: Distilled along the Meuse River, peket became deeply woven into Liège's working-class and festival culture, distinguishing it from jenever traditions found elsewhere in the Low Countries.
