Boj

Photo coming soon

Boj is traditionally fermented in hollowed-out sections of bamboo or wooden troughs rather than bottles, a method still used in some Toledo villages today.

Sugarcane juice is left to ferment naturally over several days into a mildly alcoholic, tangy drink. It's shared at Q'eqchi' Maya village gatherings and farm celebrations around Toledo's hill communities.

Why it's made this way: Boj is a traditional Q'eqchi' Maya drink specific to Toledo's inland villages, tied to the district's sugarcane plots and communal farming culture.
