Afternoon porridge · Two-pot carts

Mingau de Banana (Banana Porridge)

Photo coming soon

Manaus mingau vendors traditionally push a hand cart carrying two big covered pots: one of banana mingau and one of mungunzá, a sweet white-corn porridge.

Warm, thick porridge of cooked pacovã banana with milk and tapioca, ladled into cups from street carts in the afternoon and finished with cinnamon, condensed milk or cream.

Why it's made this way: It is made with pacovã, the large Amazon plantain, and has been part of Manaus's afternoon street-snack routine for decades, especially popular on rainy days.
