Beach Vendor · Fresh Coconut Water

When you've finished the water, many vendors will split the coconut open so you can scoop out the soft young flesh with a sliver of husk.
A whole green coconut, chilled and hacked open on the spot, served with a straw by vendors pushing carts or coolers along Rio's beachfront. It's sold everywhere from Copacabana to Ipanema, priced by the coconut, not the cup.
Why it's made this way: Green coconut is sold on beaches all along Brazil's coast, and in Rio it is a staple of the beach kiosks and roving vendors that serve sunbathers from Copacabana to Barra.
