Varna Muscat (Black Sea Muscat Ottonel)

The grape that put Varna's wine country on the map grows almost nowhere else in Bulgaria at the same concentration — cooled here by Black Sea breezes instead of mountain air.

Varna's Black Sea coast produces fragrant, floral white wines from Muscat Ottonel grapes, with sea-cooled vineyards giving the wine a lighter body and a perfumed aroma of orange blossom and ripe grape. It's traditionally served well-chilled alongside grilled Black Sea fish.

Why it's made this way: Varna's maritime microclimate, distinct from Bulgaria's inland Danubian and Thracian wine zones, makes the coastal Black Sea region the country's classic home for aromatic Muscat whites.
