Roasted Corn and Pear (Safou)

Safou, or African pear, only grows during the rainy season, so this pairing with roasted corn is a snack Buea vendors can only sell for about half the year.
Safou (African bush pear) is briefly boiled or grilled until its skin softens and the flesh turns buttery, then salted and eaten alongside corn on the cob roasted over charcoal. Vendors sell both together from roadside braziers around Buea.
Why it's made this way: Safou trees thrive in the volcanic soil around Mount Cameroon, making this seasonal combination a distinctly Southwest street snack tied to the region's rainy-season harvest.
