It's named after a single town, Wenchang's Baoluo, whose noodle-makers became so well known their name eclipsed the noodle style itself.

Thicker rice noodles than standard Hainan fen are tossed with a savory-spicy sauce, peanuts, and pickled vegetables, sometimes with a light clear broth.

Why it's made this way: The noodle's thicker body developed as a distinct variation, with Baoluo town's noodle-makers becoming locally famous.
