Stallhagen Beer

Stallhagen Beer — street food from Åland, Finland

Stallhagen recreated a beer from bottles salvaged in 2010 from an 1840s shipwreck off Åland, working with scientists to rebuild the recipe and releasing it as Historic Beer 1843.

Stallhagen has brewed beer on Åland since 2004, using local ingredients where possible and running a working brewery and pub open to visitors.

Why it's made this way: Åland's distinct autonomous identity, separate from mainland Finland, extends right down to having its own homegrown beer.
