The mineral tang locals swear by comes from an extinct volcano — Badacsony's vineyards are planted directly on basalt left behind by eruptions millions of years ago.
Badacsonyi Olaszrizling is a crisp, mineral-driven white wine grown on the black volcanic slopes above Lake Balaton's northern shore, showing notes of green apple, almond, and citrus with a saline edge from the basalt soil beneath the vines.
Why it's made this way: Badacsony's dramatic volcanic hill has been a wine-growing landmark since Roman times, and its lake-moderated microclimate makes it one of the most historically significant wine areas on the Balaton.
