Bocconotto

Its name says it was meant to be eaten in one mouthful (boccone). It only grew bigger after the 1950s.

A small shortcrust tart filled with chocolate and almonds and dusted with icing sugar, sold singly from pastry-shop counters.

Why it's made this way: According to local legend it was invented in Castel Frentano, in the province of Chieti, in the late 18th century, and the Castel Frentano version is a listed traditional product.
