They are sweet, yet in Ascoli they are fried and served in the same paper cone as the savoury meat-stuffed olives.
Small squares of set pastry cream, breaded and deep-fried, sold hot in paper cones with olive all'ascolana at fry counters and kiosks in Ascoli Piceno.
Why it's made this way: They are part of the fritto misto all'ascolana, Ascoli Piceno's mixed fry of stuffed olives, cremini and lamb chops, which street kiosks in the old centre sell by the cone.
