The Meraner is named after the spa town of Merano, where it was born, and is on the province of Bolzano's official list of traditional food products.
A finely minced pork-and-beef sausage seasoned with marjoram, served hot from a Würstelstand kiosk on a paper plate with mustard, horseradish and a crusty roll.
Why it's made this way: Würstel kiosks follow the Austrian tradition and are found in the main towns of South Tyrol, and the Meraner is the local sausage they are known for.
