Local fishers along Treasure Beach still free-dive for conch by hand rather than using large boats, keeping the soup's supply chain small-scale and tied to individual fishing families.

Conch meat is tenderized and simmered for hours in a spiced broth with yam, dumpling, and pumpkin, sold by the cup from beachfront stalls in Treasure Beach and Black River.

Why it's made this way: Saint Elizabeth's south-coast fishing communities have direct access to conch beds, giving this parish one of Jamaica's strongest conch-food traditions.
