Isageek, sometimes called African cabbage, grows so easily in the Rift Valley's fertile highland soil that Kalenjin households say they could eat it every day of the week.
A firm block of maize, millet, or sorghum ugali (kimyet) is served alongside isageek, a leafy green relish sautéed with onions and often a splash of milk. It's the everyday plate at highland eateries across Uasin Gishu and Nandi.
Why it's made this way: The pairing reflects the Kalenjin diet's balance of a starchy staple with locally grown greens, a combination that has fed Rift Valley farming and pastoralist communities for generations.
