It began as a small cheese shop with a surplus of fresh cream at a farm complex north of the city, run with just one full-time staff member, before growing into one of the country's best-known ice cream brands.
Kāpiti makes thick, high-butterfat ice cream in bold, ingredient-forward flavours, scooped from a small-batch counter that started at Lindale Farm on the Kāpiti Coast just north of Wellington. It's sold by the scoop at its original farm shop and stocked in supermarket freezers nationwide.
Why it's made this way: Founded in 1984 at Lindale on the Kāpiti Coast, the brand takes its name and its origin story directly from the stretch of coastline just outside Wellington where it started.
