Highlands Coffee

Photo coming soon

Much of this coffee is grown on small family garden plots, not plantations, then hand-carried into town to sell by the bag at Goroka's market.

Arabica coffee grown on the fertile slopes around Goroka and Mount Hagen is roasted locally and brewed strong, sold by the cup at market stalls and roadside stands, or by the bag for travellers to take home.

Why it's made this way: The Highlands' cool, high-altitude climate turned out to be ideal for the arabica coffee introduced last century, and it's now one of PNG's most valuable export crops, celebrated each year at Goroka's coffee festival.
