On a warm weekend, the Sopot pier's waffle stands can go through mountains of whipped cream before lunch — it's practically the boardwalk's unofficial currency.
Thick, crisp Belgian-style waffles piled with whipped cream, fresh fruit, and chocolate or fruit syrup, sold from walk-up windows along the Sopot pier and other Baltic coast promenades.
Why it's made this way: It's less a deep historical dish than a beach-resort tradition — Poland's Baltic coast towns built a whole boardwalk snack culture around quick, sweet treats for summer holidaymakers.
