Pyanse are steamed to order in tall bamboo-style stacks right on the street in Vladivostok — one of the few places in Russia where a Korean-style steamed bun outsells the pirozhki next to it.
Pyanse are fist-sized steamed buns of soft yeast dough filled with a mix of finely chopped cabbage, glass noodles, and seasoned meat, steamed until pillowy and served hot in paper wrap. Street kiosks across Vladivostok and Sakhalin sell them as an everyday grab-and-go lunch.
Why it's made this way: Like morkovcha, pyanse comes from the Koryo-saram community with historic ties to the Russian Far East, and it's become one of the region's most distinctive modern street foods, blending Korean technique with local ingredients.
