Amashaza (Roasted Groundnuts)

A single small bag sells for roughly the local equivalent of ten cents, making it one of the cheapest snacks in any Rwandan market.
Raw groundnuts are roasted over heat until crisp, then tossed with salt and scooped into small paper or plastic bags. Vendors sell them for pocket change around Huye's central market, alongside fruit, bread, and other cheap snacks.
Why it's made this way: At a fraction of a dollar a bag, amashaza is the kind of snack Huye market shoppers and students grab between errands, and it doubles as an ingredient stirred into stews like isombe.
