Vailima

It's named after Robert Louis Stevenson's former estate and has been Samoa's own beer since 1978 — locally owned again as of 2023 after decades under foreign control.

Vailima is a German-style pilsner brewed in Apia by Samoa Breweries, made with local water for a smooth, slightly bitter finish. It's the beer of choice at village gatherings, beach bars, and family celebrations across the islands.

Why it's made this way: Marketed for decades as 'Samoa's very own beer,' Vailima carries real national pride, and its brand returning to full Samoan ownership in 2023 only deepened that connection.
