It's named after Vailima, Robert Louis Stevenson's estate above Apia, where the Scottish author spent his last years before being buried on nearby Mount Vaea.
Vailima is a German-style pilsner brewed in Apia by Samoa Breweries, made with local water for a smooth, slightly bitter finish. It's the beer of choice at village gatherings, beach bars, and family celebrations across the islands.
Why it's made this way: Marketed for decades as 'Samoa's very own beer,' Vailima carries real national pride, and its brand returning to full Samoan ownership in 2023 only deepened that connection.
