Pommac was invented in 1919 as a non-alcoholic stand-in for Champagne — its secret recipe reportedly blends around 25 different fruits and berries, and it's aged in oak barrels for three months, just like a real sparkling wine.

Pommac is a fruity, oak-aged carbonated soft drink with a deep amber color and a complex, slightly tart-sweet flavor unlike typical sodas. It's a staple at Swedish Christmas and Midsummer tables, often poured in place of alcoholic bubbly.

Why it's made this way: The drink was created in Gothenburg — now the capital of Västra Götaland — in 1919, and its name, blending the French words for 'apple' and 'cognac,' reflects its origins as the city's answer to imported Champagne.
