The town of Zaghouan, south of Tunis, is so tied to kaak warka that Tunisians buy boxes of it there as a souvenir.

A delicate ring pastry filled with almond paste and scented with rose or orange blossom water, with a thin, crumbly shell. It's made for weddings and holidays and has become a nationwide favorite with mint tea.

Why it's made this way: Kaak warka is most closely associated with the town of Zaghouan, where it has been made for centuries, and it is now baked across Tunisia, including in Sfax.
