Chivito

Its name means "little goat" — even though there's no goat meat anywhere in it.

A chivito piles thin, tender steak with ham, melted cheese, tomato, lettuce, and mayonnaise between bread or a bun, often finished with a fried egg, olives, or bacon.

Why it's made this way: Popular history credits its invention to a Punta del Este restaurant in 1944, where a cook improvised a steak sandwich for a customer asking for goat meat that wasn't on the menu.
