This golden herbal tea is hand-picked at nearly 1,800 meters up in the Rhodope Mountains and grows almost nowhere else in Bulgaria.
Mursalski chai is made from Sideritis scardica, a mountain herb native to the high slopes above villages like Trigrad in the Rhodope range. Locally it's brewed as a fragrant, honey-colored tea and often taken as a remedy for colds.
Why it's made this way: The Rhodope Mountains' high-altitude terrain is one of the only places this herb thrives, making the tea a genuine mountain-specific tradition.
