The Vřídlo spring shoots water at about 72 °C up to 12 metres high, so it is led into separate bowls and cooled to roughly 50 and 30 °C before visitors can drink it.
Warm, salty mineral water runs from taps along the colonnades of Karlovy Vary and is sipped slowly on a stroll, traditionally from a flat porcelain spa cup whose hollow handle doubles as a drinking spout. The cups are sold at stalls beside the colonnades, and drinking from the springs is free.
Why it's made this way: The town's 13 hot springs are the reason Karlovy Vary became a spa, and strolling the colonnades while sipping from them is still the town's everyday public ritual.
