Dulce de Leche de Baní

Photo coming soon

Baní's version is so well regarded nationally that "dulce de leche de Baní" functions almost like a trusted regional label in Dominican food culture, with travelers specifically stopping to buy blocks of it to bring home.

Whole milk and raw cane sugar are cooked down slowly until thick and semi-solid, poured into trays to set, then cut into blocks and sold wrapped in wax paper from roadside stands and colmados in Baní.

Why it's made this way: Baní's cattle-ranching countryside and its long-standing reputation as the country's benchmark source for this candy make Peravia the region most associated with the dish nationwide.
